What is the difference between face to face and virtual registration?

In 2021, AVC has two attendance options - face to face and virtual. Face to face registration is for delegates who will attend in person at Sea World Resort & Conference Centre Gold Coast. Virtual registration is for delegates who will not be attending in person. Instead, they would prefer to view the conference online through our livestream platform.

Do face to face registrations include catering?

Yes! All catering is included for face to face registrations including Breakfast (if registered for the Breakfast Lecture), Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea daily.

Will there be a Conference Dinner at AVC 2021?

Unfortunately, due to COVID-19 restrictions there will not be a Conference Dinner at AVC 2021. However, closer to the time we will release more details on options to gather in smaller groups on the Saturday night after day one should you wish to do so.

Is Australian Vision Convention a COVID-safe event?

Australian Vision Convention remains committed to delivering COVID-safe events. Our main priority is the safety of all delegates, speakers, exhibitors and staff. Sea World Resort & Conference Centre follows all government safety recommendations including stringent disinfection and sanitisation protocols, increased cleaning and social distancing across the venue. As a venue they have COVID safe plans and checklists in place which are available on the Venue page here. All aspects of AVC will be delivered in strict accordance with the COVID-19 protocols and recommendations at the time of the event. Contingency plans are in place to protect the safety of all in attendance and we continue to monitor the situation. For the latest updates on COVID-19, please visit the QLD Health website here. There will be communications issued to face to face delegates with details of the onsite measures in the lead up to the event.

Why is there a limited release of face to face registrations?

Currently, there is a limited number of face to face registrations available. This is due to the current event restriction which only permits one person per 4sqm at an event. Should this restriction be lifted, additional face to face registrations will be made available for purchase. If the face to face registrations are sold out and you would like to go on the wait list, please email events@optometryqldnt.org.au with your request.

How will virtual delegates access AVC 2021?

Virtual delegates will be emailed a login two weeks prior to AVC 2021. This will give you access a personal login to our AVC platform. This platform will have the live stream, on-demand recordings, live polling, Q&A and all the other event information. Instructions will be provided on how to navigate the portal. Support is available pre, during and post event should you have any technical problems.

How will AVC assist delegates in completing their CPD portfolio?

For Australian optometrists, there has been a change in CPD requirements effective as of 1 December 2020. The AVC 2021 clinical program has been uniquely designed to offer delegates up to 30 hours of CPD to meet the annual requirement. AVC will provide all associated speaker and session information in order to assist you in completing your portfolio. Please be aware that the obligation is on the delegate to complete this requirement.

What is the Cancellation Policy for registrations?

Please refer to the Registration page for our full Cancellation Policy. Any enquiries can be emailed to events@optometryqldnt.org.au.

What is on-demand?

On-demand is simply the recordings of sessions after the event. At AVC 2021, we will be releasing ALL sessions on-demand for 4 months following the conference. On-demand will be available through the same platform as the live stream. Reminders will be sent to all delegates before the recordings expire on 31 July 2021.

How will CPD hours be allocated?

All CPD hours attendance will be tracked through both attendance options. Face to face delegates will be required to sign in on arrival and virtual delegates attendance will be tracked through the platform. AVC will automatically upload all CPD attendance for Optometry Australia members, which will update your member profile. If you are not a member of Optometry Australia, an attendance certificate will be provided after the on-demand concludes detailing all sessions attended.

Will there be optional assessment at AVC 2021?

No, there will not be any optional assessment to complete at AVC 2021. With the changes in CPD, AVC has opted for all CPD to be allocated based on attendance only. You will be able to engage with the sessions through live polling and Q&A.

How do I meet my Interactive Hours requirement if I watch all sessions on-demand?

With the CPD changes coming in, there is still a requirement for Optometrists to acrue at least 5 hours in an interactive setting with other practitioners. While this requirement will be met if you attend AVC on the scheduled weekend, those who choose to only view the recordings will not. To address this, AVC is introducing 5 x one-hour Online Group Discussions following the event. These online sessions are open to all delegates and will provide you the opportunity to dive into the plenary session themes and maximise your interactive CPD hours through group discussion. These sessions will run Wednesday nights at 7pm - 8pm fortnightly during the on-demand period on the below dates:

  • 14 April 2021
  • 28 April 2021
  • 12 May 2021
  • 26 May 2021
  • 9 June 2021
More details will be provided closer to the time on these sessions.
