Let us whisk you across the Pacific, for a Latin American themed night not to be missed at Warner Bros. Movie World.

Tantalise your senses with the infectious beats of the Samba rhythm, vivacious costumes and electrifying energy filled atmosphere.  Acrobatic performers will leave you watching in awe and amazement while the pulsating music has you dancing in the street. Adrenalin will be pumping with the pure excitement and delight that the night has to offer. With your maracas and bongos in hand, the parade of dazzling dancers and colourful floats awaits to lead you through the streets to dinner in the Star Pavilion.  

WELCOME TO CARNIVALE!

The party will continue into the evening with drinks and dancing. Return transfers are included from the Marriott Surfers Paradise and additional tickets are available for purchase for friends and family. We encourage you to wear colourful smart casual attire on the night.

Take advantage of our complimentary Crèche facility at AVC 2017.

Enjoy yourself at AVC with the peace of mind that your little ones are in the best care possible. Heaven Sent Help est. 1981, is a team of qualified staff that will set up a child friendly area at the Marriott Surfers Paradise for the duration of AVC 2017, Saturday to Sunday.

Your kids will also have a great AVC experience with the numerous activities and offerings available, such as a television for movies, XBox for games, an activity gym, an activity climber, bean bags and crafts.

Breakfast Seminar

There will be a breakfast seminar on each morning of AVC, with 3 CPD points applicable to each. These complimentary seminars are available to registrants of Australian Vision Convention only.
 

Please note that there are only a limited number of places available at these breakfasts so register your attendance by ticking the appropriate boxes throughout the registration process to secure your place.

CASA Refresher Course

We are excited to announce AVC 2017 we will be holding a CASA refresher course. We wish to remind you that all Credentialed Optometrist’s must complete some CPD in aviation optometry every 4 years. 

 

This course will be held prior to AVC on Friday, 21 April at the Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa from 1:00pm - 5:00pm. To register please contact Rosy Dolan-Murphy on 03 9668 8552 or at

CASA Refresher

Photographic Competition

Have you captured a striking anterior or posterior photograph? The AVC Photographic Competition sponsored by BOC Instruments is calling all AVC 2017 delegates to send in their photographs for a chance to win an incredible prize. 

Images can be taken with either a slit lamp, retinal camera, scanning laser ophthalmoscope, slit lamp with condensing lens or even a macro-photo involving lids or orbit.

All entries will be judged by two Optometry Qld/ NT Education Committee optometrists. Points will be awarded for photographic precision (7 points) and medical context (3 points). All chosen photographs will be displayed at AVC 22-23 April 2017, within the exhibition hall. The winner will be awarded their prize during AVC.

Each submission must be insightfully titled, include brief case information and the optometrist photographer’s name. All submissions must be received by Friday, 31 March 2017. Please send submissions in .jpg format to Olivia at o.adlard@optometry.org.au

Entry to the competition will be taken as consent for AVC and the Optometry Qld/ NT to utilise entries for display, both in print and online.

Dispenser Program

The AVC Dispenser Program on Sunday, 23 April from 10:45am – 12:15pm offers practice staff an educational component and will focus on current industry issues and research.

Including the following presentations;

10:45am – 11:15am - Dr Alex Black – “Visual field testing”

11:15am – 11:45am - ProVision – “Amazing Customer Experiences - Keys for making retailing work for you”

11:45am – 12:15pm - Leigh Robinson – “The private world of prism”

All optometrists are encouraged to bring along dispensing staff members, with one per registrant able to attend for free. Additional tickets for this session can be purchased by contacting the OQNT office on 07 3839 4411.

CPR Course

Already 3 years since your last CPR course? You are in luck! 

At AVC 2017 we are holding a CPR refresher on Friday, 21 April at Surfers Paradise Marriott Resort & Spa from 2:30pm - 5:30pm.

To secure your place in this session, please select this option in the AVC registration process. This will be offered to all AVC delegates at a discounted rate.

Best get in quick as we only have limited spaces available!

CPR Course

Employment Expo 

Following the success of the Employment Expo at AVC 2016, it will again be included at AVC 2017. The Employment Expo provides the opportunity for final year students to network and engage with potential employers over light refreshments in an informal friendly environment.

The program will be held Saturday, 22 April from 3:45pm - 5:15pm in the Hinterland Rooms.
