AVC 2022 FAQs

We've addressed some Frequently Asked Questions you may have for AVC 2022 below. We'll update this page as the event draws closer so you have all the answers you need!

How will I complete CPD reflections?

Each session will have a CPD reflections template (PDF) which provides associated speaker and session information in order to assist you in completing your reflections.

Templates will be available to download as a PDF - located with the corresponding session - in the AVC 2022 virtual platform.

Note: Optometry Queensland Northern Territory doesn't upload your reflections to your OA Memember Portal or Learning Plan. It is your responsibility to keep a record of your reflections and enter them into your OA Member Portal or Learning Plan.

How will CPD hours be tracked and allocated?

All CPD hours attendance will be tracked for sessions viewed face to face, virtually (live) and pre-recorded sessions viewed after the conference.

Face to face delegates

Face to face delegates will be required to check in with their personal ID code (issued at on-site registration) to plenary sessions and workshops. Their CPD will be automatically recorded.

Virtual delegates attendance

Virtual delegates will login to the AVC 2022 virtual platform to view the live streamed sessions over the weekend. CPD will be automatically tracked through the AVC 2022 virtual platform based on the sessions watched.

Recorded sessions post conference

CPD for recorded sessions viewed on-demand after the conference will also be automatically tracked through the AVC 2022 virtual platform.

Optometry Australia members

Optometry Queensland Northern Territory will upload all CPD attendance for Optometry Australia members, which will update your Optometry Australia member profile.

In your delegate portal on the AVC 2022 virtual platform you will also be able to download your AVC CPD certificate summarising CPD hours achieved through AVC 2022.

Note: your AVC CPD certificate is only available to download while the AVC 2022 virtual platform is still accessible to delegates - until 10 August 2022. After this time, you won't be able to access the platform to download your AVC CPD certificate.

Non members

If you are not a member of Optometry Australia, you will be able to download your AVC CPD certificate summarising CPD hours achieved through AVC 2022.

Note: your AVC CPD certificate is only available to download while the AVC 2022 virtual platform is still accessible to delegates - until 10 August 2022.

After this time, you won't be able to access the platform to download your AVC CPD certificate. We will send email reminders to download your certificate prior to 10 August 2022.

Will there be optional assessment at AVC 2022?

No, there will not be any optional assessment to complete at AVC 2022. All CPD will be allocated based on attendance only. You will be able to engage with the sessions through live polling and Q&A.

What is counted as interactive hours at AVC 2022?

Live workshops and some plenary sessions are counted as interactive hours and will be marked as interactive on the program.

These must be attended live over the conference weekend (either in person or virtually) to count as interactive hours.

You cannot watch a workshop session recording and count it as interactive.

How are workshops running at AVC 2022?

At AVC 2022 workshops will run between 10.30am and 3.30pm on Saturday 9 April. In total, there will be 8 x one-hour interactive workshops on offer. However, the maximum number of workshops you could attend live in person or live virtually on the Saturday is 4 workshops which equates to 4 interactive hours. To provide delegates choice and variety, the workshops will be repeated as per below: ROTATION 1 10.30am - 11.30am - Workshop topics 1, 2, 3, and 4. ROTATION 2 11.30am - 12.30pm - Workshop topics 1, 2, 3, and 4 repeat. LUNCH BREAK 12.30pm - 1.30pm ROTATION 3 1.30pm - 2.30pm - Workshop topics 5, 6, 7, and 8. ROTATION 4 2.30pm - 3.30pm - Workshop topics 5, 6, 7, and 8 repeat. All workshops will be available on-demand as session recordings to catch up on any workshops you may have missed. Workshops watched on-demand don't count towards interactive hours.

How do I choose the workshops I want to attend?

Once all workshop topics are finalised, all delegates registered to attend AVC 2022 will receive an email to choose what workshops they wish to attend.

How many CPD hours are available through the AVC 2022 program?

The AVC 2022 program offers over 30 hours of CPD content which includes 5 interactive hours and 10 hours of therapeutic content.

The breakdown of hours is as follows:

15 hours plenary sessions

8 hours of workshops

8 hours of pre-recorded presentations


Total hours available over the AVC weekend: 15 hours

As a Face to Face or Virtual attendee you will be able to attend a maximum of 15 CPD hours over the weekend.

All plenary and workshop sessions over the weekend will be filmed and uploaded to the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform after the conference to be viewed on-demand.

Total plenary presentation hours: 15 hours

Plenary presentations will be available to participate in live (Face to Face or Virtually) over the conference weekend or be viewed on-demand after the conference.

Interactive plenary sessions - 2 x 30 minute interactive Q+A sessions are included in the plenary presentations which is 1 x hour of interactive CPD. If you wish to achieve all 5 interactive hours over the weekend, you must attend the 2 x 30 minute interactive sessions.

Total interactive hours: 5

Interactive hours can be achieved by attending the 4 x interactive workshops and the 2 x 30min (1 hour) Q+A sessions in the plenary. More interactive hours may be added to the weekend,

Total workshop hours: 8 hours

There are 8 x 60 minute workshops in total. 2 workshops are therapeutic.

You can attend a maximum of 4 workshops over the AVC weekend. The remaining workshop topics you can view on-demand content via the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform for up to 4 months after the event.

All workshops attended Face to Face or Virtually over the AVC 2022 weekend are classified as interactive. You must participate in real time to achieve interactive CPD. If you watch the workshops on demand, they are not interactive.

It is possible to achieve 2 x therapeutic / interactive hours by participating in the 2 therapeutic workshops (live or virtually) over the conference weekend.

Total pre-recorded presentation hours: 8 (includes 1 x 30 minute session of therapeutic CPD)

Pre-recorded presentations will become available in the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform "on-demand" video library after the conference. These presentations are in addition to the plenary and workshop sessions filmed over the weekend. These presentations can be watched for up to 4 months after the event.

Pre-recorded sessions are not interactive.

AVC 2022 allows you to achieve your entire annual CPD hours as required by the Optometry Board of Australia. The requirement being:

  • 20 hours of CPD
  • Additional 10 hours for therapeutically endorsed optometrists
  • 5 hours must be interactive
  • 2 of the 5 interactive hours need to be therapeutic interactive content for therapeutically endorsed optometrists.

How do I know what sessions are therapeutic?

Sessions will be marked therapeutic on the program. This information will be available when all program details are confirmed. You will be able to achieve a total of 10 hours of therapeutic content.

How can delegates achieve all 5 interactive hours available with the AVC 2022 program?

Face to Face and Virtual delegates will need to attend 4 x workshops (4 interactive hours) on the Saturday and both Q+A panel discussions ( 2 x 30 minutes interactive) in the plenary on the Sunday.

Total: 5 interactive hours.

NOTE: Any additional plenary sessions which are deemed interactive will be noted on the schedule when the full clinical program is released.


What is the difference between face to face and virtual registration?

In 2022, AVC has two attendance options - you can attend the conference weekend as a face to face delegate or participate virutally.

  • Face to face registration

This option is for delegates who want to attend AVC 2022 in person at Sea World Resort & Conference Centre Gold Coast.

  • Virtual registration

Virtual registration is for delegates who will not be attending in person. Instead, they would prefer to view the conference online as a livestream through the AVC 2022 virtual platform during the conference weekend.

Both face to face and virtual delegates receive access to the AVC 2022 virtual platform and all associated content for 4 months after the AVC conference weekend.

Do face to face registrations include catering?

Yes! All catering is included for face to face registrations including Breakfast (if registered for the Breakfast Lecture), Morning Tea, Lunch and Afternoon Tea daily.

  • Dietary requirements

You will be asked to note any dietary requirements during the registration process so the venue can cater appropriately for you.

Will there be a Conference Dinner at AVC 2022?

There won't be a Conference Dinner at AVC 2022. However, there will be a relaxed networking session with drinks and canapes in the exhibition area on Saturday 9 April from 5.00pm - 6.30pm.

What is the Cancellation Policy for registrations?

The AVC 2022 Cancellation Policy for registrations as follows:

Face to Face delegates

Refunds for Face to Face cancellations will be assessed on a case by case basis. Should you need to cancel your registration after booking, please submit your request in writing to events@optometryqldnt.org.au

Please be advised that refunds will only be considered in extenuating circumstances.

No changes will be permitted to Face to Face registrations six (6) weeks or less from the conference dates unless the following is to occur;

Change to government restrictions for your local government area mean travel to the Gold Coast is not permitted.

Extenuating circumstances beyond your control.

Virtual Registrations

No refunds will be provided for virtual registrations. As there is up to 4 months to view the AVC 2022 clinical program online, this allows time outside the scheduled AVC 2022 weekend to catch-up.

How can I pay for my registration?

You can pay for your AVC 2022 registration immediately via credit card on the registration site. Alternatively, you can choose to be invoiced which allows you to pay via direct deposit (or credit card) within 7 days.

You will be given the option to choose your payment method during the registration process.

Payment required within 7 days to secure your registration

If you choose to pay via invoice, you will be automatically issued an invoice with payment due within 7 days.

Please note: your registration won't be held if payment is not received within 7 days.

Is there a 1 day Face to Face registration option?

No. If you are unable to attend both days Face to Face but wish to participate in the live conference, you can purchase the Face to Face registration and attend 1 day in person and 1 day as a virtual participant. All Face to Face registrations include access to the virtual AVC 2022 platform.

Will a CPR course be running in 2022?

Yes. Course details are below: Date: Friday 8 April 2022 Time: 1pm – 4pm (3 hours) Venue: Sea World ResortCPR Course Type / certification : Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation Provider: Surf Life Saving QueenslandCost - $65 (includes CPR course / tea/ biscuits) –this cost is in addition to the AVC registration
How canI purchase a ticket? The CPR course will be available to purchase in December. If you have already registered to attend AVC 2022, you will receive an emaill to advise CPR tickets are now available to book.


How will delegates access the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform?

All delegates (Face to Face and Virtual) will be emailed their personal login for the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform 7 days before AVC 2022.

This platform will have the live stream, on-demand recordings, exhibitor information, live polling, Q&A and all the other event information. Instructions will be provided on how to add the app to your device and navigate the portal.

  • Virtual delegates

Virtual delegates will login to view the live stream of AVC 2022 over the conference weekend - 9 and 10 April 2022. To achieve the interactive CPD hours available, Virtual delegates must view the conference streamed live.

Support is available pre, during and post event should you have any technical problems.

  • Face to Face delegates

Face to Face delegates will also be able to engage in polling from the audience during plenary sessions via the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform app. We recommend all Face to Face delegates add the app to their devices prior to the conference.

  • Access to the Virtual Platform after AVC 2022

After the conference weekend, all delegates will have access to the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform for 4 months. During this time, you can increase your CPD hours by watching on-demand recordings of plenary and workshop sessions plus a library of pre-recorded content.

What is on-demand?

On-demand is simply the recordings of plenary and workshop sessions after the event plus a library of pre-recorded presentations - view the pre-recorded session topics here.

At AVC 2022, we will be releasing ALL sessions on-demand for 4 months following the conference so delegates have plenty of time to increase their CPD hours. On-demand will be available via the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform.

Reminders will be sent to all delegates before the recordings expire on 10 August 2022.

When does access to the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform expire?

You will not be able to access the platform after midnight 10 August 2022.

All recordings and session information will no longer be available after this time.

We recommend planning to make the most of the 4 months you have access to the AVC 2022 Virtual Platform and maximising your CPD before the platform expires.

We'll send you reminders before 10 August 2022.


Is there parking at Sea World Resort?

Due to limited parking at Sea World Resort, a shuttle bus designated for AVC delegates will run between Sea World Marine Park (where there is ample free parking) to the Resort on conference mornings and return trips in the afternoon.

How long will the shuttle bus take?

The trip between Sea World Marine Park and Sea World Resort is 1.1 kms - approx. 2 minutes via the shuttle.

Undercover parking

There is no undercover parking at Sea World Resort.

Disabled parking

If you require special access / disabled parking options, please let our team know at events@optometryqldnt.org.au at least 10 days prior to the event.

Is Australian Vision Convention a COVID-safe event?

Australian Vision Convention remains committed to delivering COVID-safe events. Our main priority is the safety of all delegates, speakers, exhibitors and staff.

Sea World Resort & Conference Centre follows all government safety recommendations. As a venue they have a COVID safe plan in place which you can view here.

All aspects of AVC will be delivered in strict accordance with the COVID-19 protocols and recommendations at the time of the event. There will be communications issued to Face to Face delegates with details regarding onsite measures in-line with the current COVID-19 protocols closer to the date of the event.
